Eleven wonders, immediately, if she shouldn't have said that. How is she supposed to explain that she lives in Hopper's cabin, and when Hopper isn't there, she's alone? She doesn't go to school. Hopper teaches her what he can, but he can only do so much. She isn't sure how to explain that he's not really her papa, and that she's a secret, and has been for awhile.
So she goes with the easier explanation.
